CLASS EXERCISE 13: RIGGING HUMAN-LIKE CHARACTERS

This homework asked us to watch Pluralsight tutorials on rigging human-like characters and describe three methods or tools that we learned about and found interesting with screenshots and text.

CLASS EXERCISE 12: WALK CYCLE USING FORWARD AND INVERSE KINEMATICS

Animating one walk cycle using forward kinematics and inverse kinematics and render a few loops of the cycle for both animations.

CLASS EXERCISE 11: EXAMPLES OF 12 PRINCIPLES OF ANIMATION

This class exercise is a review of 12 principles of animation we learnt in class by finding at least three examples of them within the selected movie and giving a few lines of description for each example.

CLASS EXERCISE 10: SHADING, TEXTURING, LIGHTING, ANIMATING CAMERA AND RENDERING

In this class exercise, we were asked to choose one of our previous models and applied a series of operations on it like shading, texturing, lighting, camera-animating and rendering. I chose the minion model I created in Project 1 to practice this workflow. Details can be found in the webpage linked to by the title or the left image.

CLASS EXERCISE 9: SHADING AND LIGHTING

In this class exercise, we were tasked with creating a beautiful picture of still life scene. Based on an existing model, I created shading networks for different materials, added two spot lights into the scene and finally rendered it using the Mental Ray renderer shipped with Maya.

CLASS EXERCISE 7: SHOE

In this class exercise I modeled a stiletto heel using just NURBS. Many NURBS modling tools were employed in this exercise including Revolve, Extrude, Loft, Birail and Boundary, among others. For details, please click the shoe image to the left.

CLASS EXERCISE 6: PEAR

We modeled a pear like the image to the left using NURBS tools in Maya. The NURBS tools I used in this exercise are Revolve, Extrude and Planara.

CLASS EXERCISE 5: ADVANCED CHARACTER MODELING IN MAYA

We were asked in this class exercise to watch first 10 lessons of one of three online video tutorials in Pluralsight and write one sentence about what I learned in each lesson. I chose the topic "Advanced Character Modeling in Maya" in this exercise.

CLASS EXERCISE 4: SOFA

I modeled a sofa in this class exercise. This modeling task focused on smoothing and control of it via adding edges. The main tool used is Insert Edge Loop, but other tools like Bevel, Connect and Symmetric Selection, etc., were also employed.

CLASS EXERCISE 3: SOMBRERO

This class exercise asks us to model a sombrero based on polygonal modeling skills taught in the class. The key techniques used are soft selection and extrude. The main steps of the exercise are first creating a flat cylinder, extracting out the cap and then extruding the brim.

CLASS EXERCISE 2: SOLAR SYSTEM

In this class exercise I modeled the solar system, shaded and animated it so that all planets and moons can resolve around the sun or the corresponding planet, as well as around their own axes. The key technique used in this exercise is grouping.

CLASS EXERCISE 1: MUSICAL INSTRUMENT -- URHEEN

I chose modeling urheen (Chinese fiddle) as the first class exercise. I played urheen when I was a little child so I am very familiar with every detail of this musical instrument. For more infomation, please click the left icon.
